The annual picnic at the Fraternal Order of Police facility is a collaborative effort between Victim Assistance Program, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Akron Police Department. The picnic provides a fun-filled day free of violence to approximately 150 child victims of crime and their families.
The Essentials, a 40-hour course offered through the Summit Victim Assistance Academy, is a nationally approved prerequisite training in Ohio for becoming a comprehensive National Credentialed Advocate. Victim advocates, law enforcement, social workers, counselors, attorneys, medical personnel, first responders, clergy, and students should attend.
Community members, friends, and family members of homicide victims are invited to come to this heartwarming, encouraging event where they will have the opportunity to remember their loved ones, and place a special angel ornament on a tree for each individual lost to homicide. This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP required.
